Mastering Multiplication Facts: Grab your Free Multiplication Assessments

Hello Friends!

I don’t know about you, but Mastering Multiplication Facts with fluency and automaticity seems to always be a top concern for our teachers, especially in 4th and 5th grade, around this time of year. As an intervention teacher, I am always exploring effective strategies and researching best practices to enhance my students’ learning. Recently, I’ve really fell in love with podcasts, and have found a few books, and research articles on the Science of Math movement.

This year, I implemented a successful strategy for Mastering Multiplication Facts and developed a fact practice unit that includes lessons, worksheets, and posters. I shared the details in my previous blog post. However, as I reflected on this fantastic bundle, I realized the need for additional resources to consistently assess and monitor students’ fluency and automaticity with mixed facts. To support you further, I’m excited to offer free quick-check assessments! Simply follow this link to receive them directly to your inbox! The assessments are divided into two types: one set focuses on facts 0-10, while the other extends to facts 0-12, accommodating various standards. Each set includes three different tests for rotation, along with answer keys.

While free multiplication assessments are readily available, what sets these apart are the variety of tests and accompanying answer keys. Additionally, these assessments are designed as half sheets, offering a way to minimize paper usage without compromising quality. Remember, achieving Mastering Multiplication Facts and attaining automaticity requires consistent practice. Despite teaching strategies, scaffolding fluency, and sharing helpful “tricks,” success ultimately hinges on dedicated practice.

As we journey through the holiday season, it’s crucial to recognize the role of continuous learning even during festive times. The upcoming break provides an excellent opportunity for students to reinforce their multiplication skills in a relaxed environment. Encourage them to incorporate fun activities like games and puzzles that subtly reinforce multiplication concepts. An easy to make game is using a deck of cards and flipping two cards over and multiplying them, whomever has the highest number is the winner of that round. Another is to use dice to do the same thing. Who says learning can’t be enjoyable?

Speaking of enjoyable learning, I also love using 99Math. It is a fun website, where students can compete to complete multiplication facts in a series of three rounds. My students love it, and I’ve noticed a considerable improvement in their enthusiasm for practicing multiplication. If you haven’t tried it, you should! You can use addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. You can do live play, or solo play, home practice, and there are reports. If you’re interested I can do a future post on this game! Just follow my contact info below, and tell me you’d like to hear more about 99Math.

Now, back to the assessments. I’ve also included a bonus section in the link I shared – a set of creative multiplication fact fluency games that my students absolutely adore. These games not only make learning fun but also provide a dynamic way to reinforce the mastery of multiplication facts. They’re perfect for both individual and group activities, promoting a collaborative learning environment.

In addition to the free assessments, I’ve been considering hosting a virtual workshop on effective strategies for Mastering Multiplication Facts. It would be a space for educators to share insights, discuss challenges, and explore innovative approaches to teaching multiplication. If this sounds like something you’d be interested in, sign up here, if there is enough interest I will send out more details! Your input will help shape this potential learning opportunity.

As we wrap up this year and look forward to the next, let’s commit to making Mastering Multiplication Facts a collective goal. Together, we can create a supportive community of educators dedicated to equipping our students with essential skills for future success.
